Sumeia was born in Bristol and moved to Yorkshire around a year later and now lives in Dewsbury.

She would love to go into script writing but currently writes prose, working from scenes and snatches of dialogue that flash into her mind and have to be caught quickly. Her main subject is the interface between traditional and modern, what she calls the culture clash between her religious, social background and the relationships that arise within her small northern community, particularly among young people. The tensions that spark between them inspire the writing and the search for resolution provides impetus for her stories.

Sumeia has a pacey, fresh voice and writes from experience. But she wields an objective insight too, while sympathetic to characters caught in complex situations, she never romanticises them and the actions they take.

Sumeia is a member of the Writing Squad and just about to start college.
